About Maywood, Illinois
Maywood is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,987 at the 2000 census.Long a blue collar community, Maywood had experienced many changes since the closing of American Can Company in the late '70s. It is currently in the process of being rediscovered as a gem of the near west suburbs. There is a Metra commuter railroad station in the village. Since the current administration took over in 2005, the crime rate has gone down significantly, and many professional families are moving into the area. Maywood has an ideal central loaction 10 miles from downtown Chicago, and is close to all major Interstates. It is also ideally located between O'Hare and Midway Airports. Property values are rising sharply in the recent 3 years, at a rate of approx 15% per year. There are many century old gracious homes in relatively unaltered condition, and Maywood boasts 16 homes and properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
